Why Measuring Return on Investment (ROI) With School Technology Is Important and How Can You Do the Assessment Effectively?

February 17, 2017Whatever you load for a better school management the inflow of success can be achieved only through ensuring proper security. The responsibility totally lies on the school management and nothing else can survive without security. So as a result of this pressure, the demand is set over accommodating a well-designed technology that can exclusively handle security in school.
It is true that technology is the biggest domain every institution relies on for security. Many institutions are ready to convey their trust over technology for reinstating security and so are even interested in showcasing their facilities for earning trust of parents. The demands over such features are well realized by the providers and starting from electronic access to visitor management facilities are available in attractive packages. Another thing is, because such technological assistance comes in packages, many have been addressed with solutions that they never knew as existed. It is true that effects of such technologies can be known until we install it on our school premises.
On the other side the negative impact also prevails. That is in some cases the schools invest a lot of money on activating certain technology. But the result may not be fruitful or they will have to move for upgrading with less hope of change. In many cases a meeting between the vendor and school authorities can set the solution. This opens up the opportunity for conveying the requirements as well as the availability between two parties. In a way it bridges the gap between demand and availability in the initial stage itself.
However the installation of technology doesn’t seem to make things run smoothly. There are many drawbacks and most of them are popped up due to the mismatch between the technological installations and the operational facilities.
Anyhow some of the misalignments are reported from the below listed areas.
1) Video Surveillance
One of the major misalignments spotted is the failure in reporting the conflict between the students. In such situations only the staff can intervene and solve the conflict. The camera can only record it and nothing much can be done.
It is true that video surveillance has a major role in monitoring the activities going on in the school. But at the same time it cannot intervene in such issues or place a solution for it. For that active supervision of the designated individuals are required. Supervision can be considered as an alarming source and further step can be continued only through active participation. The evidence will be generated by camera but the task of reinstating the normal function has to be done by real staff. In every respect it is better to accept technology as a support.
2) Access Restriction
Nowadays the publicity of access control facility is too much. It can be seen that many reports of unauthorized door breakage has been reported and that makes the access control senseless. This can be categorized as a planned breakage with tough rules. But other issues like exploiting the friendliness of the employees are also being reported. Here, the intruder involve in a conversation with the staff and enters the premises by following them. This is usually reported as the most intellectual way of breaking the security and this emotional exploitation can be stopped only through staff involvement. Once proper human supervision is not allocated such incidents continues to happen.
3) Managing Visitor Facility
The convenience of managing the visitors is another facility that most of the institutions are demanding. Such types of software’s are today commonly available. One of the most common practices seen are scanning the driver’s license and comparing it with the list that includes prohibited identities. The person who has been guaranteed entry is provided with a visitor badge.
The drawback is missing out visitors at the entry and getting in without permission. It becomes worse once the staff show reluctance in approaching the visitor without badge and asking him or her clarification. If such steps are missed out then the worth of visitor facility will be totally lost.
Remember security have a great role in school premises. But missing of true participation from the institution may lead to unexpected disappointments. So make the best of technologies with assured institutional commitment.
